Local community (Town & Region):

Florence, regional capital, has a population of half a million of inhabitants, overspread along the river Arno. Approximately in the middle of the Peninsula, between Adriatico Sea and Tirreno, Florence is important for its industries and for handcraft, commerce and culture, arts and science.

Host Organization: 

Florence City Council is the city administrative management bureau and, for this reason, wants to promote activities to facilitate and improve inhabitants way of life, trying to develop active citizenship consciousness.

Volunteer's Tasks:

The volunteer will have the possibility of operate in one of the following council department:

-Youth Centres

• organize recreational and cultural activities

• make youth aware on opportunities of European Mobility

• activities to increase communication and multimedia

-City Council's Libraries

• increase and enhance the library's services like information, customers' assistance, consultutaion, loan;

• support activities of promotion of books and spread of reading

• support organisation and management of guide visits, didactic laboratories, animate reading addressed to primary and secondary schools;

• settle documental heritages and support the activities of book processing: inventory, stamping, labelling, cover, possible interventions on computer catalogue

• support the cultural activities about documents heritage even if historic: exhibition, editing of topic bibliographies or news bulletins, organisation of seminars and study days, publication of catalogues, etc.

-City Council Museums

• collaborating in cataloguing and filing works

• collaborating in carrying out ordinary activities of preservation and mantenaince (rearranging materials, manual and computer inventory)

• collaborating in making communication and showing activities

• supporting activities of audience receiving and reception

-Social Promotion Department

• join and support the workers that manage courses on computer literacy and individual support to use computers, on surfing programs, on e-mail management and on Civic Network and Internet.
